Thought Sketch #0006: The Problem With Class-Only Solidarity
Thought Sketches are the long-form microblogging notes I would traditionally post to Facebook, Tumblr, etc. These thoughts are documented here as brief snippets of thought and contemplation, a public journal of my observations and insights, as I’m not really one for blogging or writing the way I’m “supposed” to.
I've had so many conversations about why calls for singular class solidarity from white socialists or brosocialists or people who think they're socialists but aren't are dehumanizing and violent.
Black and Brown people are not your fucking economic tools and pawns.
You will not dehumanize me and erase the violence you've seared into the fabric of my goddamn DNA - my epigenetic inheritance from my ancestors who were beaten and broken to build the economic foundation you still benefit from even as a poor ass white person - because you want more socialism with your identitarian privileges.
I'm an anarcho-communist who has very little substantive interest in the current political systems and structures of the United States. They're definitely not going to save us, nationalism never does, not even Black nationalism. So none of our current crop of candidates really speak to my political praxis and vision for liberation. I like some of them more as people, but for the most part, they do not hold a vision that I feel best represents what we are capable of aspiring to as a collective.
But the fact that the overwhelming majority of my so-called comrades, whose lives are built and vested into my continued marginalisation and dehumanization, are backing the same candidate, makes me nervous. I don't trust that, despite - if I had to choose - favouring the political platform that candidate stands on. It especially makes me nervous when the lion's share of those supporters also try to weaponize economic solidarity under capitalism as a cudgel to ignore the enfleshed political suffering of my life that doesn't just manifest through the vector of economics.
Not everything is money, or profit, or material resources, you base fucks.
That's a lie of capitalism, too.
I am not a tool.
I am a person.
